    AIM:
  • List out of all Indian Plants
  • List out all the plants that is available in Tamil Nadu
  • Identifying and list out the correct plant in Siddha medicine system
  • Identifying and list out the correct plant mentioned in Tamil Literatures
    like Sanga Ilakiyam, Bakthi Ilakiyam, Siddhar Books, Tholkappiyam, Nigandu, Agarthi etc.





    ACHIEVED:
  • Identified and consolidated 11,226 Indian plants.
  • 5,767 Tamil Nadu plants are identified.
  • 90,000 different confused names are identified for 667 plants in Tamil Siddha Medicine. (Due to various reason there are many names for one Siddha plant)

    Reasons for the confusion of the Plant names in Tamil:
  1. Common and Colloquial Tamil name of the plants are pronounced in English as it is verbally sound in Tamil. Example: துத்தி[ Thuthi ] in Tamil > Tutti in English
  2. Tamil names was compiled in English version and printed in English.
  3. Complied format are not printed in Tamil.
  4. Compilers have given importance to Phonetic symbols and are misused while printed in English and translation in tamil
  5. Compilers neglected original pronunciation by using new English terms.
  6. Neighbouring state and people living in border and their accent/languages changed name pronunciation of the plant.
  7. According to the usage of plants Folk medicinal plants are named and brought into the regular usage.
  8. To maintain the secrecy In Siddha medicine, plant’s are named indirectly உதாரணம் - இருகுரங்கின் கை = முசுமுசுக்கை -முசு என்றால்குரங்கு
  9. Without considering the synergies of ancient plant names in epics/poems/literature, also without medicinal and botanical knowledge the plants are identified in Tamil names
  10. People published their own dictionaries based on their living period and lifestyle. Plant names given or published based on their current knowledge of the people without analysing the meaning of it.
  11. Over a period of time Siddha medicinal plant names slowly changed and transformed.


GOING TO IMPLEMENT

  1. Botanical terms will be given in Tamil.
  2. Referring all the Tamil literatures identifying the correct Tamil name for each plant with the help of Tamil and science scholars.
  3. Presenting the information about plants to common people in simple way.
